Welcome to the home page of the website www.greatwardeadwinchesterfulfloodweeke.com. Listed here are the 91 men from the Winchester parish of Weeke with St Paul’s who died in the Great War of 1914-18. The men’s names appear on the memorials at the parish’s two churches, St Matthew’s, Weeke, and St Paul’s, Fulflood.

Website

The website is based on the book, We Will Remember Them: The Great War Dead of Fulflood and Weeke, Winchester, which was published in 2021 by a group of local historians following six years of research.

The website can be navigated using the tabs at the top of this page. It has been designed for use on all types of devices, from laptops and PCs to mobile phones. The men’s details can be accessed in several ways – through the ‘Men’ tab via their alphabetic name, their address or regiment. Be aware that some addresses have changed in the 100 years since the men lived there. In these cases both the old and new addresses are given. Similarly, where a property no longer stands, this is indicated.

Schools

One new section 'Education', not in the original book is devoted to material for use by local schools in teaching children about the Great War. We hope that it will prove popular.

If you have any information or photographs that can add to the men's stories or or would like to order a copy of the book (price £20, free delivery within Winchester city), please contact: greatwardeadwinchesterfulfloodweeke@outlook.com

The authors would like to thank Steve Jarvis and Barrie Brinkman for their efforts in setting up this website.
